- Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
When a major disaster occurs, do you have food, water, shelter, etc. for 72 hours for all of your family members (including pets)? Do you know how to turn off utilities safely? Are you equipped for basic first aid? Do you know what to do to assist neighbors and the community?
Following a major incident, emergency personnel will not be able to reach everyone right away! By being trained as a CERT team member you will have the skills to help responders to save lives and protect property.
As a member of a CERT team, you can respond to disasters, participate in drills and exercises, and receive ongoing training. CERT teams are known and trusted resources to emergency responders and their communities. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. The cost to participate is $35.
