Board Positions

The purposes of the Saratoga Springs Youth Council are three fold. They are to provide leadership opportunities to youth in our community, provide a better understanding of how local and state government works, and provide opportunities for service in the community.

Filing for a Board Member Position

Elections for all board positions (but one) are held at the May meeting for the next year of service. If you want to run for a board member position you must file by contacting the current board secretary.  There are 5 board positions available for the youth council board. There are some restriction of who can hold some of the board member positions. See restrictions in the descriptions below.  

Leadership Positions

These are leadership positions and can be used as a leadership component when applying for College and Scholarships.

Mayor

Must qualify and be invited to apply for Youth Council Mayor. This position may earn a $1,000 scholarship if all criteria are met at the end of the service year. 

Lead Youth Council meetings. Conduct votes for youth council. Help the council follow Roberts’s rules of order. Help the Council stay on task during meetings. Work with advisor to plan the yearly calendar and meeting agenda’s. Attend board member training. Attend all meetings and volunteer opportunities. Participate in the legislative day mock bill.

Mayor Pro-Tem

Must have been a member of youth council for at least one year to file for this position.

Lead Youth Council meetings when Mayor is unavailable. Assist Mayor in duties. Work with advisor to plan meeting agenda’s. Attend board member training. Attend all meetings and volunteer opportunities.  Participate in the Legislative day mock bill. 

Council position 1: Secretary

Must have been a member of youth council for at least one year to file for this position.

Send reminder emails and or texts to council to remind them about meetings. Keep track of attendance at meetings. Keep minutes of meetings. Participate in youth council meetings.  Attend board member training. Attend all meetings and volunteer opportunities.

Council Position 2: Volunteer Coordinator

Must have been a member of youth council for at least one year to file for this position

Participate in youth council meetings. Organize youth council volunteers for volunteering opportunities. Remind those signed up about volunteer commitments. Keep track of attendance at volunteering opportunities.  Attend board member training. Attend all meetings and volunteer opportunities.

Council Position 3

Any youth council member can file for this position.

Participate in youth council meetings.  Attend board member training. Attend all meetings and volunteer opportunities.
