[ARCHIVED] Early Literacy Tip: Reading

Early Literacy Reading

Strengthen your child’s reading and writing skills with this early literacy tip: Reading!

Begin reading with your child early. Doing so aids in healthy brain development, introduces children to new words and concepts, and develops a love of reading!

When reading with your child, try out these tips!

  • · Read every day! Make reading part of your daily routine.
  • · Read books your child chooses and is interested in.
  • · Reread familiar or favorite books to help your child better understand the story.
  • · Ask questions while you read to make the experience more interactive.
  • · Have your child tell you the story either by making up one based on the pictures or by summarizing the plot of the book.
  • · Have fun reading! Use different and silly voices and be enthusiastic while reading to make it a fun and special experience for your child.

For more fun books to read with your children, visit the children’s section of our library! You can also browse our collection and place holds on books online through your library account here!
